The assistant attorney general says the civil rights division will “aggressively defend women’s hard-fought rights.”
The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced an investigation into a California school to see if its state law AB 1266 complies with updates to Title IX policies. The state law was signed by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2013. President Trump’s administration is concerned with the section of the law that allows students to participate in school sports using their chosen gender identity.
“Title IX exists to protect women and girls in education. It is perverse to allow males to compete against girls, invade their private spaces, and take their trophies,” said Civil Rights Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon. “This Division will aggressively defend women’s hard-fought rights to equal educational opportunities.”
In a letter to a California school district that has required female athletes to compete against biological males, Assistant Attorney General Dhillon warned, “When the Attorney General has reasonable cause to believe that an educational entity that receives federal funding is engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination in violation of Title IX, it is the Attorney General’s responsibility to take appropriate action to eliminate that discrimination, including seeking injunctive relief.”
Meanwhile, the California Interscholastic Federation recently announced that any female student who failed to qualify for upcoming track and field championships because she was forced to compete against a biological male athlete would be invited to participate.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Assistant Attorney General Dhillon as she seeks to ensure compliance with the original intent of Title IX to provide scholastic and athletic opportunities to girls and young women.
- For Attorney General Pam Bondi to receive God’s wisdom as she heads the Justice Department.
